ELEANOR J. EGAN

Class of 1924

Eleanor Josephine Egan, born on March 19, 1891 in Osage, Mitchell County, Iowa, was the daughter of John Egan, born in Hamilton County, Ohio, and Bridget Ann (Delia) Hughes, born in Wisconsin. The Egan children were: Anne Cecilia, Mary Grace, Helen, Charles Leo, Eleanor Josephine, Francis Patrick, Sarah Louise, Lelia Catherine, John Vincent, and William Lawrence.

The father died in 1921 in Rochester, Minnesota. The mother, unfortunately, died in 1938 in the State Hospital for the Insane in Independence, Iowa.

Eleanor J. Egan, Registered Nurse, 39, born in Iowa, parents born in Wisonsin, was living and working in Cleveland, Ohio at the time of the 1930 Federal Census.

In 1940, Eleanor, a Trained Nurse, was living with her brother, John, at 8545 Second Avenue, Detroit, Michigan. John was a Statistician, Public Utilities.

From the list of Registered Nurses in Pennsylvania, 1940-1941, published by the State Board of Nurse Examiners: "Eleanor J. Egan, 8545 2nd Blvd., Detroit, Mich."

She had two brothers, William Lawrence Egan and John Vincent Egan, who lived in Detroit, Michigan at that time. A sister, Sarah Louise Egan, married in Jeannette, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania in 1917 and lived there for several decades.

Another brother, Francis Patrick Egan, lived in South Dakota. It was in Yankton, South Dakota that Eleanor J. Egan died of a stroke on July 27, 1958. She is buried at Sacred Heart Cemetery Osage, Mitchell County, Iowa.
