HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: Washington Post (DC) - November 5, 1996 - Joseph P. Gervasio Sr., 77, a former branch chief for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, died of heart disease Nov. 2 at Washington Hospital Center. - Mr. Gervasio, a native Washingtonian, graduated from Central High School in 1937 and spent a year at Bullis Preparatory School before attending the University of Maryland. He joined the Army in 1941, was commissioned as an officer the next year and served in Europe and in the Pacific during World War II. - After the war, he was a clerk-typist with the Agriculture Department, then worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in the 1950s. Later in the decade, he returned to Agriculture as a personnel administrator. He retired as a personnel branch chief in 1975. - He was a member of Lakewood Country Club, in Rockville, and the American Legion. - Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Helen Daviero Gervasio of Washington; a daughter, Phyllis Jo Gervasio of Arlington; a son, Joseph P. Gervasio Jr. of Rockville; three sisters, Cecelia Clark and Mary Galotta, both of Washington, and Vivian Koebel of Arlington; and two granddaughters. - [Note: Daughter, Phyllis Jo Gervaiso, and son, Joseph P. SISTER'S OBITUARY: Columbus Dispatch (OH) - September 30, 2008 - Elodia Daviero Shaw "Dee", age 87, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008. She had an insatiable devotion to her faith and family. Born in Pescara, Italy the values of her Italian heritage guided her faith, family, and career. She was an active and longtime member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Elodia enjoyed international travel with her husband and other family members. Passion and excellence supported her successful career in the hospitality and food industry. Elodia was preceded in death by her husband, Earl G. Shaw. She is survived by her daughter, Devra (Pat) Hiller; grandchildren, Erin Hiller, Jonathan Hiller, Patrick Hiller, Ashley Hiller, Brandi Hiller; great-grandson, Jack Hiller; brother, Henry (Matilda) Daviero; sisters, Mary (Lester) Swaney, Helen Gervasio; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 2151 Dorset Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43221. Reverend Paul St. Germain and Reverend Bruce Smith co-officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, PA., Saturday, October 4, 2008. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Ohio Health Hospice or First Community Village Health Care. Family has entrusted SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL with funeral arrangements.

OBITUARY: On May 8, 2017 Helen Daviero Gervasio was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Joseph Phillip Gervasio Sr. after 20 years. - She leaves behind her devoted family: daughter, Phyllis Jo Gervasio of Arlington, Virginia; son, Joseph Phillip Gervasio and daughter-in-law Deborah Murphy Gervasio of Rockville, Maryland; precious granddaughters, Melissa Anne Gervasio and Allison Lauren Gervasio, grandson-in-law, Nicholas Christian Abbott, and adorable great granddaughter, Evelyn Anne Abbott all of Arlington, Virginia. She is also survived by her brother, Henry Daviero of South Bend, Indiana and sister, Mary Daviero Swaney of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a host of nieces, nephews, “adopted” family and friends. - Mrs. Gervasio was born in Republic, Pennsylvania on October 21, 1924. She graduated from Nursing School in Pennsylvania and settled into Washington, D.C. as a nurse at Doctors Hospital. Helen turned a life-long passion for helping people into a longstanding career and advanced quickly to the rank of Director of Nursing, a job that she adored. It was while working as a nurse that she met the love of her life. They were happily married for 48 years until his passing. - A member of The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament parish for 63 years, she was also an active member of the Sodality. - Mrs. Gervasio and her husband were founding members of Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, Maryland where she remained a member until her death. - Helen was an avid golfer and bridge player but her real passion was cheering on the local sports teams. She loved watching the Redskins, the Capitals and most especially the Washington Nationals. She never missed a televised game. We mourn the loss of our matriarch, a generous spirit, a sassy dynamo and a true force of nature. - "Toodle-oo!" - Relatives and friends are invited to call at Joseph Gawler’s Sons, LLC, 5130 Wisconsin Avenue N.W., Washington, D.C. on Friday May 12 from 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 3630 Quesada Street, N.W. (at Western Avenue), Washington, D.C. on Saturday, May 13 at 11 a.m. Internment at Mount Olivet Cemetery will follow. - In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
