Josephine M. Mickunas, RN, suddenly passed away on October 24, 2012 to join her beloved husband Anthony in heaven.

She was a strong willed Irish woman to the core and extremely proud of her Irish heritage. She was born on January 11, 1917 in McKeesport, Pa. to John and Josephine Connelly. She graduated from the St. Francis Medical Center School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pa. in June of 1937 and began her career as a Registered Nurse. She married Anthony Mickunas on November 22, 1939 in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. They moved to Akron in 1946. She worked at Green Cross Hospital, Manor Care of Akron and volunteered for the Red Cross bloodmobile. She was a member of the Kenmore Senior AARP, the Altar and Rosary Society at Immaculate Conception Church, and the Alumni Association of St. Francis Medical Center School of Nursing.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, John and Josephine Connelly; sister, Agnes Habina, and husband Anthony Mickunas. She is survived by her sons, Daniel (Karen) of Akron, Thomas (Gary) of Pensacola, Florida, Terrence (Cheryl) of Sebeka, Minnesota, Timothy (Marcella) of McAllen, Texas, Kevin of Riverview, Florida; daughters, Rita (Todd) Chambers of Akron and Judith of Seattle, Washington; sister, Dolores McCall of McKeesport, Pa.; grandchildren, Michael (Kim), Michelle, Christopher (Ann), Keith, Harry, and Jacob Mickunas, Jenna (Chris) Garee, Jeremy (Augusta) and Benjamin Chambers; great-grandchildren, Katie, Anthony, and Gemma Mickunas, Ethan, Landon and Lucas Chambers.

Friends may call Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schlup-Pucak Funeral Home at 788 Kenmore Blvd. Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Monday, October 29, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Tom McCann officiating. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Hospice Care Center at 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333 or PAWSibilities (Humane Society of Greater Akron) at 7996 Darrow Rd., Twinsburg, OH 44087.
