Edith Mae Connell, born in Pennsylvania on December 4, 1920, was the daughter of Thomas F. Connell and Mary M. Miller, both born in Pennsylvania. The family is found in the 1930 Federal Census living on Atmore Street, Northside, Pittsburgh. The father, 57, worked as Machine Hand in a steel manufacturing company. The children of Thomas and Mary in 1940 were Martha C., 17, Marcella C., 24, Regis, 19, Francis J., 17, Ruth A., 15, Bernard L., 13, and Edith M., 9.

At the time of the 1940 Federal Census, Edith Connell, 19, born in Pennsylvania, was a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital. The record indicates that she had lived on the North Side, Pittsburgh in 1935.

While a resident of St. Francis Hospital, Edith M. Connell joined the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She entered active duty on February 1, 1943 and served until February 8, 1946. When she applied for Veteran Compensation in 1951, her married name was Herndon, and she lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The husband of Edith Connell was Jack Herndon, a native of Tulsa. Born in 1919, he died in April 1968.

Edith's name was changed to Edith Connell Born in November 1985.

The death of Edith M. Connell Herndon Born occurred March 1, 1990 in Tulsa. She is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa.
