OLGA CHERNAK BROWN

Olga Chernak was the daughter of August Chernak, a coal miner, and his wife, Mary Laloska, both born in Poland. At the time of the 1940 Federal Census of Boswell, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, Olga had two younger siblings, Mary and John.

While a student nurse at St. Francis, Olga Chernak participated in the U. S., World War II Cadet Nursing Corps.

Following graduation, Olga Louise Chernak joined the Air Force Nurse Corps. In 1950, when she applied for Veteran Compensation for her World War II service, she stated she was born on November 10, 1920 in Boswell, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. She entered service on June 1, 1945 and was still serving in 1950.

Her name was changed to Olga Louise Brown in April 1960.

According to the Department of Veteran Affairs Death File, Olga Brown served in the Air Force from June 1, 1945 through January 20, 1952. She achieved the rank of Captain.

Captain Olga Chernak Brown died on September 10, 2007; last know residence, Philadelphia. She is buried at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Prince George's County, Maryland.
