MARY ALICE CASTERWILER FISHER

OBITUARY: Mary Alice (Casterwiler) Fisher, 87, of Greensburg, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at home, surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Latrobe, to the late Alex and Louise Hood Casterwiler. She graduated from Latrobe High School in 1948, and from St. Francis School of Nursing (Pittsburgh), receiving an R.N., in 1951. She graduated magna cum laude from Indiana University of Pa., receiving a B.S.Ed. in school nursing in 1967, and an M.Ed. in counselor education in 1969, also from IUP. Mary Alice was employed by Greater Latrobe School District as the school nurse at the Junior High School (Ligonier Street) from 1968 to 1972. She then was employed by Greater Latrobe as the elementary guidance counselor from 1972 to 1980. Until her retirement, she was employed as an elementary guidance counselor for Brittonkill School District, Troy, N.Y. She was a member of Charter Oak United Methodist Church, and Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Sally and Brad Hunter (sister and brother-in-law); Paul "P.R." Casterwiler (brother); Jeanne and Chuck Henry (sister and brother-in-law); Ron Lawson (brother-in-law); and Alexander (infant brother). She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Curtis A. Fisher; three daughters, Kristen Hauger and husband, Tom, of Unity Township, Kathy Hunter and husband, Jeff, of Latrobe, and Karen Petrarca and husband, Pat, of Laughlintown; three grandchildren, Andy Hauger and his wife April, Beth Hauger Silowash and her husband Ryan, and Aaron Petrarca; six great-grandchildren, Tommy, Cora, Charlotte and Jacob Hauger, and Lucas and Zach Silowash; two surviving siblings, Ellen Lawson, of Latrobe, and Larry and Bobbie Casterwiler (brother and sister-in-law), of Wayne, Mich. There will be no public visitations, and memorial service will be private per Mary Alice's wishes. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery, Cook Township. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Charter Oak United Methodist Church (general fund), 449 Frye Farm Road, Greensburg, PA 15601.
