AGNES LEONARD CASEY

Agnes was born in New York about 1878, according to the 1910 Federal Census of Pittsburgh, at which time Agnes, 32, was residing in the St. Francis Nurses' Home. Her place of birth is stated as either Vermont or New York in various records. Her parents, John and Ellen (Leonard) Casey, were married October 30, 1868 at Bennington, Vermont.

The mother, Ellen, born in New York, appears in the 1909 Pittsburgh City Directory, a resident of Euclid Avenue. This address is also found on some of the family death certificates.

In the 1920 Pittsburgh City Directory, Agnes L. Casey, Nurse, lived at 208 Fairmount Avenue.

The 1930 census of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, finds Nurse Agnes L. Casey, residing on Beechwood Boulevard in the home of her brother, Daniel A. Casey, a widower with three young children. Two other sisters of Daniel and Agnes - Ila M. and Elizabeth - lived with them. Agnes was a nurse in a private home, Daniel was the president of a gas company, and Ila and Elizabeth were secretaries of the gas company.

In March 1930, Ila Casey (b 1892) and Agnes Casey (b 1882) traveled from New York to Bermuda. The passenger lists states they were both born in Burlington, Vermont and were residing at Beechwood Blvd., Pittsburgh.

In 1940, Agnes L. Casey and her sister, Ila M., both born in Vermont, were living on Homewood Avenue, Pittsburgh. No occupation is stated for Agnes, who was then 62. Ila, 49, was "Partner - Duquesne Electric." Brother, Daniel, was Dennis A. in 1940, and was remarried with additional children.

Ila M. Casey, 58, of the Royal York Apartments, Pittsburgh, died February 3, 1949. Her birth place is stated as New York, and her father was John Casey. The information on her death record was given by D. A. Casey, the brother. She is buried at Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh, and her name is on the same stone as her parents, John Casey (1843-1911) and Ellen (Leonard) (1850-1910), her sister, Elizabeth (1883-1974), and John J. (1884-1916).

On another stone at Calvary Cemetery are the names of Michael J. Casey (1870-1938), his wife, Julia (1870-1946) and Agnes L. Casey, 1878-1943. Michael's place of birth is stated as New York, his father in Vermont and mother in New York. Michael J. Casey was another child of John and Ellen, thus Agnes' brother.

The Pennsylvania death records are online for the parents, John & Ellen, for their son, Michael J. & Julia, for daughter, Ila M., and for son, John J., who died in 1916 of Streptococcus meningitis.

Agnes L. Casey, Nurse, found in various Pittsburgh records, died December 12, 1943 in Hollywood, California. According to her Social Security application, her full name was Agnes Leonard Casey, and she was born March 19, 1878 in Bennington, Vermont.
