MILDRED C. CARLSON

When Mildred C. Carlson was a student nurse, she participated in the U. S. World War II Cadet Nursing Corps. Her membership card indicates that she was from Warren, Pennsylvania and her guardian was her mother, Mrs. Marie Carlson, Women's Army Corps.

Mildred Catherine Carlson was born August 25, 1924 in Warren, Pennsylvania to Adolph Carlson and Marie Flaus. In the 1930 Federal Census, Adolph L. and Marie A. Carlson were the parents of Helen, 9, and Mildred K., 5.

In 1934, the father, Adolph Lawrence Carlson, applied for Veteran Compensation for his service in the U. S. Army during World War I. He indicated he was divorced and the father of three daughters, Anna Marie, Helen and Mildred. He died at Warren State Hospital in 1950.

According to the Social Security Application & Claims Index, in March 1952, her name was changed to Mildred C. Oakes. In 1957, it was changed to Mildred Catherine Oakes. In June 1968, her name was listed as Mildred C. Williams.

OBITUARY: Lakeland, Florida - Mildred "Millie" C. Williams, 82, died of heart failure Thursday, October 26, 2006. Millie was born in Warren, PA August 25, 1924. She moved to Lakeland from Warren over 50 years ago. Mrs. Williams worked as a registered nurse for many years. Millie is survived by her step-daughter Gwen Sutton of Lakeland; step-son, J. B. Williams Jr. of Fort Myers, FL; two sisters, Helen Guglielmo of Houston, TX , Ann Marie Aumer of Warren, PA; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband J. B. Skeet Williams in 2004. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 1, 2006 from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at Lakeland Funeral Home with service to follow at 2:00 P.M.
