PAULINE MADELYN BREZA

Pauline M. Breza was born on October 18, 1911 in Braddock, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Her parents are unknown, but she was somehow a cousin of John Francis Majovsky.

Pauline was listed in the 1930 Federal Census as a student nurse at St. Francis Hospital. The record indicates that she and her parents were born in Pennsylvania. In 1940, she worked at St. Francis Hospital and resided in the Nurses' Residence.

During World War II, Pauline served in the Army Nurse Corps, from July 15, 1942 until January 6, 1946.

Pittsburgh Press, Oct 29, 1939 (excerpt)--"The Junior Auxiliary of the St. Francis Hospital met recently to elect officers. MISS PAULINE BREZA was named president; Miss Agnes Price, vice president; Miss Martha Pitraitis, treasurer, and Miss Frances Ambrose, secretary."

Pauline Breza was the attendant of Miss Agnes J. Price (Class of 1932) when Agnes became the bride of Dr. John Vesely in 1949. Agnes was also in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II.

Pauline Madelyn Breza earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1951, and a Master of Education degree in 1957, both from Duquesne University. In 1960, she received a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Pittsburgh Press, Oct 27, 1964--Nurses Alumnae To Sponsor Benefit - St. Francis General Hospital Nurses Alumnae Assn. will sponsor a benefit card paty and fashion show Saturday at noon in the School of Nursing auditorium. - The affair, chairmanned by PAULINE BREZA, public health co-ordinator at the hospital, will include a smorgasbord luncheon.

Pauline M. Breza died Aug 15, 2008, last known address Pittsburgh; East Liberty. She is buried at Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
