MARY R. BLAKE CUPP

The Altoona Mirror, October 26, 2012 -- Mary R. Cupp, 86, Altoona, died Wednesday morning [Oct 24] at Valley View Home.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Earl Bascombe and Florence (Saylor) Blake. She married Kenneth B. Cupp on May 5, 1950, in Altoona.

Surviving are her husband; a son, William L. and wife, Jean, of Altoona; a daughter, Melissa Ann Cupp of Rumford, R.I.; a grandson, Matthew; and a sister, Helen Conley of Sunbury, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey; and a brother, Bascombe.

Mary was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1947 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, with an RN degree. She retired as a registered nurse from Valley View Home in 1992. Prior to that, she had been co-owner and operator with her husband of the former Cupp's Bakery from 1950-72.

Mary was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star 290, where she served as past matron. She was also a former troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America, and she enjoyed playing bridge.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Gilden Barton Funeral Home, 1401 Ninth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, the Rev. Paul I. Pease officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
