ANNE T. BENKO MONTGOMERY

Anne T. Benko was born to Joseph Benko, born in Austria, and his wife, Susan (Good), born in Pennsylvania. At the time of the 1940 Federal Census of Pittsburgh, Mr. and Mrs. Benko had three daughters: Anna, 20, Margaret, 16, and Ameal(Amelia), 15. Amelia, called Mildred in the 1930 census, graduated in the St. Francis nursing class of 1945-S.

Anne T. Benko entered the Army Nurse Corps at Pittsburgh on June 8, 1943. She served as an officer and flight nurse from September 20, 1944 to October 14, 1945. She served one year and one month overseas and was in the USA between flights. She was separated from active service on December 1, 1945.

In 1950, when Anne applied for compensation for her service during World War II, her name was Anne T. Montgomery, and she lived in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. She stated she was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 25, 1920.

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 1999, in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church for James Patton Montgomery Jr., who died April 14 at age 77. - Mr. Montgomery was born Sept. 10, 1921, in Ingram, Pa. He moved to the Portland area in 1957. An electrical engineer, he worked for Westinghouse until retiring in 1982. He lived part of the year in Tucson, Ariz., for the past several years. - Survivors include his wife Anne; daughters, Janice and Lynn, both of Portland, Claire of Corvallis and Amy DeVito of Bend; sisters, Ruth Hunter and Lois Hammer, both of Pennsylvania; and seven grandchildren. Numerous news articles indicate that the son, James Patton Montgomery, III, 33, committed suicide by drowning in 1988. He was a former host of a nationally syndicated talk show.

The mother, Susan Benko, died in Texas, but in Pittsburgh had been been a pastry chef at a hotel, according to a news article.

Anne Therese Benko Montgomery died in Portland, Oregon on February 15, 2016.
