Martha Evelyn Croson, 21, the daughter of Joseph and Audrey Catherine (Magner) Croson, was born in Washington, D. C. She married Dr. Robert James Baker, 28, born in McKees Rocks, the son of Nicholas Baker and Theresa May. The marriage license states that the marriage was to take place on February 3, 1951 in Arlington, Virginia.

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: DR. ROBERT JAMES BAKER, M.D. - Died peacefully at his home in Bethesda, MD, on Sunday, December 14, 2014. He was born in McKees Rocks, PA, the son of Nicholas (at one time the town's mayor) and Theresa May Baker. He graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and Loyola University Medical School in Chicago, IL. He served as a private first class during World War II with the U.S. Army and as a captain and medical officer in the Air Force during the Korean War. Burial will be with full military honors. Dr. Baker spent the early years of his medical career in general practice in McKees Rocks, delivering several hundred babies (most of whom today are in their 60s). Following his career to help others, he devoted the bulk of his career to psychiatry, training at St. Elizabeth's in Washington, D.C., St. Francis of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh, and the Pittsburgh Psychoanalytic Institute. He practiced his office in Pittsburgh and later Beaver, PA and at the University of Pittsburgh, St. Francis Hospital, the Butler Veteran's Administration Hospital, and the Rochester, PA Mental Health Center. Throughout his life, Dr. Baker was passionate for learning, charity, his Catholic faith, and his family. He served for many years on Parish Council on St. Mary's Helpful Christians, renamed St. John of God Parish and later at St. Paul's Cathedral of Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Paul, Raymond, and John Baker, Dorothy Rennenkamp, Amelia Hartner, Ethel Kosmar, and Pennsylvania's former lieutenant governor, Catherine Baker Knoll. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Martha (Croson) Baker; a sister, Mary Ridgeway; his children, Robert W. Baker and Paula Trzepacz of Indianapolis, IN, Maria Baker Balady and Eddie Balady of Garden City, NY, Elizabeth M. Baker Keffer and Jeff Keffer (deceased) of Washington, D.C., Joseph X., and Amy M. Baker of Bethesda, MD; and his grandchildren, Leila, Isabel, and Michael Balady of Garden City, NY, May, Abby, and Griffin Keffer, Washington, D.C., and Axel Baker of San Antonio, TX. OBITUARY: MARTHA EVELYN CROSON BAKER - Of Bethesda, MD died peacefully on Friday, July 6, 2018, in the hospital after a prolonged illness. Daughter of the late Audrey Magner and Joseph Hanford Croson, she was born on June 27, 1929, in Washington, DC. Formerly of Arlington, VA, Pittsburgh, PA and Beaver, PA, she was a registered nurse having graduated in 1950 from St. Francis Hospital Nursing School in Pittsburgh, PA. Martha married Robert James Baker, M.D. of McKees Rocks, PA in February 1951 in Arlington, VA. She moved with her husband to Knoxville, TN while he served in the US Air Force during the Korean War before moving to McKees Rocks, PA where he practiced medicine. As wife of Dr. Baker (deceased 2014) for 63 years. Mother of Dr. Robert Winfield Baker and Dr. Paula Terese Trzepacz of Zionsville, IN; Maria Baker Balady and Emad Antoun Balady of Garden City, NY; Elizabeth Baker Keffer and the late Jeffrey Michael Keffer of Washington, DC; Joseph Gerard Baker of San Antonio, TX and Amy Maureen Baker of Bethesda, MD; and grandmother of Leila Marie, Isabel Marie and Michael Alexander Balady of Garden City, NY; Kathryn May, Audrey Beatrice and Griffin Michael Keffer of Washington, DC; and Axel James Baker of San Antonio, TX. She was a devoted wife and mother, a devout Roman Catholic who enacted her faith with joy every day. Her greatest focus in life was selflessly caring for others with great uncommon kindness, graciousness and patience. She welcomed every individual to her home with an open heart, as though she did not have a care in the world. To meet her was to love her. She cared for her youngest daughter, Amy, who has Down syndrome, even throughout her own health decline.
