FRANCES AUGUSTINE WARGO

Class of 1940

Frances Augustine was born in 1919, the daughter of Carl and Rozalia Augustine of Natrona, Pa. Her sisters, Matilda, Isabelle and Hilda, also graduated from the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing.

HUSBAND'S OBITUARY-- With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Alexander Wargo Jr., following a valiant two-year battle against cancer. Mr. Wargo was 86 years old. He was born June 15, 1916, and raised in Blainesburg, West Brownsville, spending all of his life there with the exception of the 10 years he spent serving in the United States Merchant Marines/Coast Guard during World War II. His years of service included travels to many worldwide ports, and he was among those Merchant Seamen decorated by the Russian government at the end of the Cold War for their aid and assistance to the citizens of Murmansk during World War II. Mr. Wargo worked for over 30 years as a carpenter and was a member of Local 541 United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Jointers of America. He was also a member of the Brownsville American Legion and the California Hill Gun Club. Mr. Wargo was a well liked, honest, and hard working, solid man. He loved hunting, fishing, working in the garden and spending time in his home with his family. Mr. Wargo was preceded in death by parents; and two sisters, Margaret W. Jacobs and Jewel Musar. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Frances C. Augustine Wargo, a retired school nurse from the California Area School District; his children and their spouses, Alexander C. "Bud" and Janet Wargo of Blainesburg, Rosemary and John Cassin of Kirtland, Ohio, and Carol and Paul Mosher of Verona, Ky. He will be missed tremendously by his four granddaughters, Michelle Wargo Hill, Francine Wargo, Chrissy Cassin, Jonea Cassin, their families; and two great-grandsons, each born earlier this year. Also surviving are his siblings, dearest sister and friend Virginia "Ginny" Musar and husband John of Newell, Betty Jean Antonucci and husband Mario of Hiller, Robert Wargo and wife Dorothy of Fredericktown, John Wargo and wife Jackie of Panama City, Fla.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Friends will be received in the MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME INC., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth St., California, Pa., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and until 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, when a blessing services will be held with the Rev. Fr. Paul Gruenbach officiating. Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park. - Published in Valley Independent on Nov. 13, 2002.

June 1, 2020: Although the Alumni Association listed Frances Wargo among the deceased in a mailing to members in early 2019, Mrs. Wargo is alive and well at the age of 100, according to her daughter, Carol Mosher. "Frannie" currently resides in West Brownsville, Pa.

OBITUARY: Frances Christine Wargo, 101, of W. Brownsville, PA, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. - She was born Monday, December 15, 1919, in Natrona, PA, a daughter of the late Carl and Rozalia (Straka) Augustine. - She was a member of the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church in California PA. - Mrs. Wargo graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. She met her husband, Alexander Wargo, Jr., in 1941 and they married in 1943. She worked in the Uniontown Hospital and was a night shift supervisor in Brownsville General Hospital. In 1955 she was hired by the California Area School district, as a school nurse. She was a full time wife and mother while working full time as a school nurse and attending California Sate College on weekends to obtain her BS in Education, a requirement for being a school nurse. Fran worked in the California Area School District until 1983 when she retired to become a full time wife and Grandma. - Fran was loving, kind, caring and nurturing. She loved to garden and cook. She was firm but fair and she loved and lived life to its fullest. She moved to Florida, after the death of her husband, and made many friends, but she wanted to return to Blainesburg, to the home her husband built for her and their family. - In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by two sisters, Mathilda Scioglietti, and Isabelle Vecheck; brother, Clarence Augustine and beloved daughter-in-law, Janet (Albenze) Wargo. - Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Alexander C. Wargo of W. Brownsville, PA, Rosemary Cassin and husband John of Concord, OH, Carol Mosher and husband Paul of Leesburg, FL; sisters, Mary Martha Bocinec of San Diego, CA, and Hilda Ann Hartary of Arlington, VA; and brother, Rudy Augustine of Laurel, MD. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Michelle Hill and husband Monte, Francine Wargo and wife Caroline Bergmark, Rudy Evosirch, Christine Kraig and husband Jamie, and Jonea Cassin; 6 great grandchildren, Adam, Ethan, Carson, and Lindsay Hill, Corey Bergmark, and Noah Craig, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. - The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Barb Matola and Bernie Zdilla for the love and care they provided for Fran’s daily care. Many thanks also to Dr. Fernand Parent and his wonderful staff of nurses who were so kind and patient with Fran as she aged. - Friends will be received in the Mariscotti Funeral Home, Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, PA on Friday, August 27, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and until 11:00 am on Saturday, August 28, 2021 with Fr. James Bump officiating. - Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.
