THAIS MARIE ABEL FARABAUGH

Class of 1934

Thais Marie Abel is found in the 1920 and 1930 census records of Cambria County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Francis "Frank" J. and Cora M. (Dietrich/Diethrich) Abel, who, in 1930, resided on Spangler Street, Hastings Borough. Frank Abel, whose father was a German immigrant, worked in a coal mine; in 1930 he was listed as a Weighmaster. Cora was the daughter of a Civil War soldier.

Born June 25, 1912, Thais was the oldest child of Frank & Cora, according to the census records. At the time of the 1930 census, Thais' younger siblings were Felicita, Mary E. (Ellen), Frances, Christine and William.

Thais may have been named after Sister Mary Thais Abel, born in 1867, of the Sisters of Mercy. Census records indicate that the father of Sister Abel was born in Germany. She may be the sister (or other relative) of Frank Abel.

Following her graduation from nursing school, Thais married (date unknown) Earl C. Farabaugh.

A news article in the Indiana Gazette on June 11, 1974, says Thais Farabaugh, R.N., was presented with an award at Miners Hospital, in Spangler, for 25 years of service.

Earl C. Farabaugh, born May 30, 1907, died November 14, 1967. Thais died December 7, 1980. Both are buried at St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carrollton, Cambria County, Pennsylvania.
